I too have a HUGE 1950's sink cabinet, as does my freind K. They are actually quite pricey on the salvage market.

I like mine, but I'm really curious - did yours come with a steel sink board, or did you do something to it to get that? I had no idea they were made with steel sinks!

Marg the sink is in its original condition. Both side drain boards and the giant double sinks themselves were originally, and continue to be, stainless steel. I am really going to miss them when we leave!

are you kidding me? when i saw the teaser text on houseblogs that you hated your huge 1950s metal sink, i thought, "ooh, maybe i could go buy it! let me go check it out!" such things bring four figures new. you're lucky! :) glad you love it now.

Lisabee...you aren't the only one who was interested in it. I received several emails last spring when we were painting the kitchen asking if we were planning on tearing it out when we remodeled and wondering if we would sell it. We were planning to do a 1950's style "soda shoppe" when we did the bar in the basement and were thinking about having the cabinets painted red when we moved the sink downstairs. Ahhh...what might have been.

I don't know how the new owners feel about it but if I hear that they are planning to tear it out during a remodel (they are friends with some of our friends in the neighborhood) I'll post something and folks can keep an eye on craigs list. :)
