I've been trying to figure out the best way to get you all caught up on everything we have done to the house. I guess the best thing to do would be to break it down by project and get the "unfinished" stuff out of the way before discussing the new stuff we did.
I think the best place to begin will be with the "office". For those of you familiar with a "typical bungalow design" this was the front bedroom and it never made it to the incarnation of home office. We knew it would be years until it actually was used as an office even if we stayed. It was to be Rowan's playroom while we finished the basement, then a bedroom while we redid the upstairs and then finally be a home office.
We literally hours away starting construction on the basement when we learned L was being offered a job with full relocation benefits back in D/FW (Dallas/Fort Worth). So we figured our time and money would be much better put to use rehabing the existing space and letting the "next owners" do what they want with the basement.
As you will recall, the office was the first major project that was started in this house. We stripped wall paper, wood work and windows. We re-textured the walls, painted, primed and replaced the ceiling fixture. What started out looking like this...
Now is a workout room that looks like this...
We were not able to finish repairingthe ceiling around the old light fixture (remember the awful lightless ceiling fan?) so we purchased a simple medallion and covered up the gaps around the base of the new school house fixture. I was afraid it would look out of place but since there was very little detailing to it all it does is give it a nice finished look.
One room down...
Now all I have to catch you up on is the downstairs bathroom, upstairs bathroom, 4 more bedrooms and a hallway.
