This week I will be attempting to finish up the blog entries on our "completed" 1929 Bungalow. We know it isn't really completed as we never did get around to removing the aluminum siding but hey...we have to leave something for the new owners to do!
Last week L, R and I took a trip to DFW to hunt for a new house. After seeing lots of homes we
might like, we crunched some figures and have decided to build a home we will definitely LOVE! That's good news for our loyal readers as it means as soon as I wrap up the entries on this blog I can start a new one on the trials and tribulations of new construction.
I guess the best place to start is by finishing up the down stairs. We refinished the floor in the back bedroom. That room was originally going to be a library once the house was finished but for the duration of our stay in the house it was used as a storage room. When we staged the house for sale we set it up as a playroom for the Whohead. It is the only room in the entire house that we didn't paint. Not that it didn't need it, but we ran out of time. We felt it more important to refinish the floors instead of stripping wallpaper and repainting.
The last room we completed in the house was the downstairs bathroom. This room has the original tub, sink and best of all hex-tile on the floor. The previous owners painted the trim tan...which totally clashed with the tile. So we painted it an "asphalt gray" and purchased accessories from Wal-mart. There is no color at all in this room. If it isn't black, white or grey...it isn't in the bathroom. We painted it the day before our open house and had numerous comments on how fantastic it looks...and I know I am a bit (okay..a LOT) biased but I have to agree it looks pretty stinkin' good.
And for those of you who are wondering how I fixed the "
what were they thinking" mistake...it all comes down to drywall compound, baby! Here's the before and after of that:
