When we purchased this house two years ago we loved the main floor. Spanish plaster walls, hard wood floors and built-ins with original stain glass windows made the home a real treasure. However, upon entering the stairwell to go to the second floor you went from 1929 beauty to 1983 tacky. It was always our intention to completely gut the upstairs but when we realized that we were going to have to sell the house without renovating we had to come up with something to make the house feel like a bungalow upstairs as well as down.

If you have ever doubted the power a can of paint can have...these photos should put the case to rest. I have had several people tell me that the change is even far more dramatic in person.
If all that isn't enough we also dramatically transformed the worst room in the house with a can of paint...the upstairs bathroom. This bath room was "remuddled" in 1983 and the clawfoot tub was removed along with a pedistal sink and hex tile floor. It was replaced with buff colored fixtures, a particle board vanity and vinyl flooring that was so bad that sometime between 1983 & when we purchased the home, previous occupants actually
painted the vinly floor. This room always looked to me like the people doing the remodel walked through a home improvement store and said "Give me the cheapest you've got, 'cause we are about out of money." As far as I am concerned..."Tacky" is the most complimentary thing I could say about this room before I attacked it with paint.
We were trying to decide to paint the upstairs bathroom some shade of green when my girlfriend, K, mentioned that she had paint left over from painting her dining room. I loved the way the room had turned out and figured it couldn't hurt to at least try the red on the walls in the bathroom. Another friend of mine had painted her master bath red a few years ago and I had absolutly loved it but was afraid for a room as small as this bathroom it might be a bit overpowering. It turned out to be fabulous instead!
Finally, I don't have "before" shots of these rooms. They are the upstairs bedrooms and we had to paint them so quickly that I completely forgot about getting the before shots taken. At least you can see how they turned out after a little TLC, paint and decorating turned them in to rooms that we love.
