Well, believe it or not my last run-in with a contractor hasn't scared me away from them permanently. Today we are scheduled to have a new guy out to give us an estimate on the basement.
The
last time I did this, you may remember, was a fiasco. L and I haven't been in a real big hurry to get someone else out to look at the house because the windows (which are still not started) are our only real priority this summer. But we were thinking that we might be able to get a contractor to come in and do the work during the winter months.
I am actually very excited about the company who is giving us an estimate today. I am a member of the
American Bungalow Magazine forums. There is a woman who has proven to be a big help on information for local resources who it turns out owns a small construction and remodeling company with her husband. They live in a bungalow and know the appeal of doing "historically sensitive" renovations. I figure I have absolutely nothing to loose by having them come over and take a look at what we would like to have done. With any luck these folks will not only be professional but I would love to be able to help "drum up business" for the family own company by getting to post a good review both here and on the forum boards. They don't promote themselves on the boards as it is one of those things that just "isn't done". But I don't think there is anything wrong with a member posting good news about another member. So keep your fingers crossed!
