I too hate Behr paint. As we were painting, I said to myself, this paint sucks, let me go on the web and see if it sucks for anyone else and apprently it does. Unfortunately Home Dopey sucks too!!! They are the losers that told me this was excellent paint, it is not! Glad I only bought a gallon of this crap!!!

Lisabee...you aren't the only one who was interested in it. I received several emails last spring when we were painting the kitchen asking if we were planning on tearing it out when we remodeled and wondering if we would sell it. We were planning to do a 1950's style "soda shoppe" when we did the bar in the basement and were thinking about having the cabinets painted red when we moved the sink downstairs. Ahhh...what might have been.

I don't know how the new owners feel about it but if I hear that they are planning to tear it out during a remodel (they are friends with some of our friends in the neighborhood) I'll post something and folks can keep an eye on craigs list.

Marg the sink is in its original condition. Both side drain boards and the giant double sinks themselves were originally, and continue to be, stainless steel. I am really going to miss them when we leave!

are you kidding me? when i saw the teaser text on houseblogs that you hated your huge 1950s metal sink, i thought, "ooh, maybe i could go buy it! let me go check it out!" such things bring four figures new. you're lucky! glad you love it now.

I too have a HUGE 1950's sink cabinet, as does my freind K. They are actually quite pricey on the salvage market.

I like mine, but I'm really curious - did yours come with a steel sink board, or did you do something to it to get that? I had no idea they were made with steel sinks!

Bonnie, thanks for the interest in me continuing to blog. My family back in Idaho would much appreciate it as well. We have another blog about our daughter that I'm hoping to get back to writing on once this one is wrapped up and we get settled in to our new space. Actually GMM I didn't know about this area. But I don't get the option of living there. AFter living in an old house L has decided he really wants to go back to new construction. I have really mixed feelings about this. There is far less character in newer homes...but then again, there is far less maintenance. All I have to do is pick out paint colors and not worry about fixing crumbling plaster, reglazing windows, and upgrading electrical systems.

If you're moving to the DFW area (and you probably already know this), check out Fairmount in FW. Lots and lots of bungalows, reasonably priced. We lived there for several years and loved it. We still miss our old house! It was our first house, it was historic, and it was awesome! Now that we're Northerners again I will admit that, although we really miss our little house there, we do NOT miss the searing heat.

Bonnie, I love your duplex. I REALLY like the natural wood in the kitchen. I will say I totally agree with you about NOT knocking down the wall between the kitchen and dining room. I know that the "great room" is very popular in new home construction today but lets face it...bungalows aren't new homes. They are wonderful pieces of history and as such should be left with as much original integrity as possible.
