New Address for a New Life

One week from today we will hand over the keys on our 1929 Bungalow. As excited about moving back to Texas as I am I get a bit sad thinking about it.

I have had several emails and comments asking if I was planning on writing a blog on the new home we are building...and today I am please to say YES! Our new web address is over at Our Charmed Life and I have already started blogging.

It will be about 2 more weeks before we are in Dallas so until then I'll be working more on the design of the blog more than anything...but I will be posting floor plans and a couple of photos in the meantime.

When we purchased this house two years ago we loved the main floor. Spanish plaster walls, hard wood floors and built-ins with original stain glass windows made the home a real treasure. However, upon entering the stairwell to go to the second floor you went from 1929 beauty to 1983 tacky. It was always our intention to completely gut the upstairs but when we realized that we were going to have to sell the house without renovating we had to come up with something to make the house feel like a bungalow upstairs as well as down.
This week I will be attempting to finish up the blog entries on our "completed" 1929 Bungalow. We know it isn't really completed as we never did get around to removing the aluminum siding but hey...we have to leave something for the new owners to do!

Last week L, R and I took a trip to DFW to hunt for a new house. After seeing lots of homes we might like, we crunched some figures and have decided to build a home we will definitely LOVE! That's good news for our loyal readers as it means as soon as I wrap up the entries on this blog I can start a new one on the trials and tribulations of new construction.
One of the things I wasn't crazy about when we bought this house was the GIANT 1950's metal sink unit in the kitchen. As a matter of fact, on the walk through of the house I told L & our realtor that it would be the first thing to go. As finances wouldn't allow for the kitchen remodel to be the first thing I did when we moved in, I didn't really have the option to rip out the sink.

After living with it for two weeks I fell in love with it. I knew it didn't really fit in the kitchen but we decided that when we built the wetbar in the basement we would move it downstairs. I could then "update" the kitchen to 1929.
As all good things must come to an end...so must this blog. Not because I haven't enjoyed writing it, but because we have decided to sell our darling house and return to the land of perpetual heat (Dallas/Fort Worth, TX). We have spent the last several weeks working non-stop to get the house in a condition that we would be proud to list on the real estate market for. That meant lots of work, long hours, and no time to blog. However, I do have some really great photos and over the next few days will be updating the blog with the results of all our work so that you all can see them.

By the way, we did list the house on the market and had our first showings yesterday at an open house. This morning we were made two offers on the house and accepted one of them. If everything goes as scheduled we will be leaving our sweet little home to new owners to care for in just over a month.

When we moved to Milwaukee 18 months ago we knew NOBODY. L went to work and made friends with a guy by the name of Tony. Tony and his wife Stephania are Italian. Which means nobody is a stranger. We had been in town only a few short weeks before we had not only met both of his parents, his sister and brother, but her parents and grandfather. After removing the ceiling fan from my kitchen and putting up the new one I figured I was safe to try and update the fixture in the office. There was a ceiling fan in that room with no light so I figured I might have a pretty good chance of getting a new fixture installed with a bit more ease that the last one. I removed the ceiling fan and was in luck as there were only two wires...one white, one black. I got it all installed and put in a light bulb and threw the power switch. LIGHT!
I am finally starting to feel much more like myself. I can't believe how long this bronchitis and sinus infection actually hung on. We have finally been able to take the Whohead off of her nightly dose of cough medicine and I have quit having to carry a box of Kleenex with me everywhere I go. You would think that this would mean I would be racing to the paint store to finally purchase my trim paint. Unfortunately that isn't the case because L is trying like crazy NOT to come down with the same crap. He has asthma so I'm holding off a bit longer on the painting until I know that he isn't going to spend all night coughing.
Illness update.

I have received several emails from loyal readers wondering how I am feeling, so I figured the least I could do was post an update. My motivation is still in high form...but the rest of me is feeling pretty lousy. On top of the bronchitis I was diagnosed with earlier this week I have come down with a really nasty sinus infection. (YUCK!) Both L and the doctor have ordered me to bed.

L should be nominated for "Husband of the Year" after he stayed home from work to care for the Whohead and myself. It's funny because a girlfriend and I were complaining a couple of weeks ago that stay-at-home moms don't get sick days. Guess he proved me wrong!
Possible Kitchen Floorplan

When we moved in to this house Lance HATED the kitchen. I loved the cabinets but hated the fact that there was no dishwasher and no prep space. For months I have been brain storming on ways to make the kitchen more functional without destroying the "bungalow" feel. I have friends that have taken down the wall between the kitchen and the dining room and made a breakfast bar and as beautiful as the kitchens turned out...it really did impact the way the house feels.
Yep...it's bronchitis

I hadn't planned to see the doctor today but the Whohead started coughing pretty badly around 4:30 this morning so I figured we could "kill two birds with one stone" and both go in for an office visit. The Who came down with a runny nose over the weekend and since that's the way my illness started it didn't surprise me when she started coughing. That being said...I don't do "helpless" very well. And being a mommy with a sick kid means that you ARE helpless. So I packed her up this afternoon and went to see our family doctor. We both have bronchitis and were informed it can take up to 6 weeks to fully recover.
Tiny Little Hall

For the most part, I have spent the last four days trying to recover from what may, or may not be, bronchitis. I don't really know what it is since I am too stubborn to go see a doctor. (There...you all have it in writing, I admit I am stubborn! ) I tend to have to be off my feet for a week before I will cave-in and schedule an office call. I figure if I still feel lousy on Tuesday I'll go ahead and make an appointment. In the meantime I'm drinking lots of fluids and getting plenty of bed rest. But today I couldn't take any more. The thought of having a half finished kitchen finally got the best of me and I had to get out of bed.
